Tammi Piermarini wins five races at Suffolk Downs
In earning the fourth-place spot for most wins of all-time by a female jockey Tammi Pieramarini couldn’t have found a more dramatic way to complete the accomplishment. Pieramarini won the first five races on the Suffolk Park card on Sept. 28. She joins Julie Krone (3,704) and Rosemary Homeister, Jr. (2,438), Patti Cooksey (2137) for most trips to the Winner’s Circle.
"Raising a family, riding racehorses - it takes a lot of work and a lot of perseverance, but it's worth it," Piermarini, a mother of three, said in a story posted on the Suffolk Downs website.
Piermarini, who earned her second Suffolk Downs riding title in 2010, currently sits atop the local jockey standings with 86 wins.
