A Big Weekend at Hawthorne
It looks to be a great weekend of racing at Hawthorne Race Course as the weather has cleared and warmer weather approaches. Illinois-breds will be on-hand for the Illinois Festival of Racing on Saturday, Oct. 22, which includes six $125,000 added stakes races that are all very competitive.
In addition to seeing some of Illinois’ best, Hawthorne is having a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys fund. The PDJF provides assistance for riders who have been injured in races and are unable to ride. Hawthorne will be taking donations at Guest Services for the 50/50 raffle with the winner to be selected during the races.
For those who enjoy a game of Baggo, there will be a tournament on the apron to help the Galloping Out program, managed by the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (ITHA). Galloping Out places and provides homes for retired racers once their careers are over. Winners of the Baggo tournament will receive prizes. There will be raffle drawings as well.
On Sunday Oct. 23, Chicago Blackhawks’ “Coach Q”, Joel Quenneville, will be on-site from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM in the Grandstand near Guest Services for a meet and greet with racing fans.
