Undefeated Alsvid Set To Face Nine Rivals In
Clever Trevor Stakes Friday Night

OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2011 Remington Park series of stakes races for 2-year-olds continues Friday evening with the running of the $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes at seven furlongs. The 2010 winner of the race, Caleb’s Posse, just won the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile last week and is now a contender for the honor of Champion 3-year-old this season.

Alsvid, undefeated thru two career starts, drew post position five in the field of 10. Alsvid won the first-leg of the 2-year-old series, the Kip Deville Stakes in October, defeating two that will return on Friday in the Clever Trevor in addition to seven new foes.

Owned by Black Hawk Stable of Elk City, Okla. and trained by Chris Hartman, Alsvid will be ridden by the only jockey to handle him to date in Chris Landeros. He has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite for the Clever Trevor Stakes by Remington Park odds-maker Jerry Shottenkirk.

“Alsvid has been terrific against good company, including two participants in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint, and once again he'll be tough to beat.”

Finishing behind Alsvid in the Kip Deville were second and third-place finishers Sum Of The Parts and Jake Mo. Both competed last week in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint. In that race Jake Mo ran fifth with Sum Of The Parts sixth.

Since his win in the Kip Deville on Oct. 7, Alsvid has posted three official Remington Park workouts including his most recent bullet five-furlong drill on Nov. 5 when he went in 1:00.23 handily. The work was the fastest of 62 at the distance that morning at Remington Park.

Sword Trick has been tabbed as the second-choice in the morning-line at 3-1 odds. He has won three of four career starts, two in Texas Stallion Stakes competition at Lone Star Park and at Retama Park. “Sword Trick has been very good against restricted company in three of four races and might be ready to move back to open foes,” Shottenkirk noted.

Owned by Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. of Midland, Texas and trained by Bret Calhoun, Sword Trick suffered his only defeat over the turf in the Sunny’s Halo Stakes at Louisiana Downs in August. Jockey Cliff Berry will have the call on Sword Trick, the leading winner and earner in the Clever Trevor field with three victories and a bankroll of $133,800 coming into the race.

Also entering the Clever Trevor undefeated is Isn’t He Clever who has posted two consecutive career-opening scores at Zia Park in Hobbs, N.M. Owned by J. Kirk and Judy Robison of El Paso, Texas, Isn’t He Clever is trained by Henry Dominquez and will be ridden by Luis Quinonez on Friday night. He is 8-1 on the morning-line.
